Domestic violence is physical, emotional, sexual and or psychological abuse of one person by another in a personal or family relationship.
It can be:
- verbal abuse
- threats
- sexual abuse
- stopping you having contact with
- your friends or family
- destroying your possessions or
- causing damage to your home
What can you do ?
There are no easy answers, but there are some things you can do to protect yourself and / or children. There are people who will listen without judging you who will simply offer advice. You can discuss the violence safe in the knowledge that the discussion will be strictly confidential.
What can you expect ?
ENEHL has a Domestic Violence Policy that supports Leeds City Council’s Domestic Violence policy. It gives guidelines to all staff to ensure that they respond sensitively and appropriately to the needs of women and men experiencing violence from someone else.
We will:
- take all possible steps to ensure your safety and maintain confidentiality.
- ENEHL will only involve other agencies or share information with your consent.
- offer a private interview room with a duty officer. You don’t need an appointment.
- be sympathetic and understanding.
- listen carefully.
- offer someone of the same sex or ethnic background wherever possibleto give advice and interview you.
- put you in touch with other organisations including giving youtheir telephone numbers.
- not ask for any evidence or ‘proof’ of violence. Whatever you tell us or show us is up to you.

We will discuss these areas with you, giving you as much advice as we can about:
- emergency housing
