Beckhill Estate – Recycling Sites

Due to the design and location of the Beckhill estate residents have always had issues with the collection of rubbish in general and more specifically the collection of recyclable materials.

In partnership with refuse collection and the Inner North Eat Area Committee the Area Panel has funded the creation of recycling sites in various parts of the estate. The locations were chosen to ensure that all residents on the estate have easy access to the sites.

Meanwood Community Arts initiative

The Three Churches Project based in the inner north east area has for many years assisted local people in accessing activities.

This year the panel has approved funding to assist in the provision of a range of activities

Vanessa Brown from the Three Churches Project said “We’re really grateful to the Area Panel for giving us funding to run a number of Community Arts initiatives over the coming year.  We’ll be putting together a community choir, running drum circles and craft courses, as well as giving local young people opportunity to work with a professional MC to have a go at Beatboxing and MC skills, or take part in a drama club and production.

We are keen to offer activities that are fun, free or with nominal costs, have something to offer people of all ages and are a chance to meet others and develop skills. We have been working in the area for a number of years and are delighted to be able to offer a wider variety of opportunities this year, thanks to the grant from Area Panel.

Community Outreach and Development Project - Meanwood

A project to encourage local residents to learn skills and become more confident around the use of computers has been developed at Stainbeck Church on the Beckhill estate. A number of groups use the location as a base and the computers that the church had were outdated and slow. The inner north east panel approved funding to purchase new equipment. These are now being used by numerous groups with assistance available to help people learn more.
