You only have to visit your local DIY superstore to discover how popular DIY is. Everybody is looking to make home improvements even if it’s only a bit of decorating. The ENEHL Skills week is a training programme aimed at tenants who want to learn basic trade skills whilst understanding the process of turning empty properties into homes.
Tenants were shown how an empty house is prepared for re-letting by guiding them through the process from the previous resident vacating the premises to a new person moving into the property. The trainee was trained to assist in repairing the property. Tasks include fitting a kitchen, a bathroom, laying floor and wall tiles to a professional standard.
The course was delivered over a five day period with a mini company induction given on site and covered a Health and Safety talk, Personal Protective Equipment and an induction to the company. At the time of training each trainee was given a pair of protective boots donated by our clothing supplier a hardhat and overalls.
An individual training plan was given outlining the skills they would be learning in plastering, plumbing, joinery, bricklaying and painting and decorating. The majority of the skills training were given by our own trade operatives.
