If you are buying a flat and are not a sitting tenant
You are responsible for paying your gas and electricity bills from the day you complete buying your flat. You will need to find out who currently supplies your gas and electricity.
When you move into your home:
1. take gas and electricity meter readings
2. contact the gas and electricity suppliers
3. give them your meter readings
4. ask them to send bills to you in the future.
If you have a water meter you are also responsible for the water bills from the day you complete buying the property. Ask your supplier for a meter reading and make sure they send the bills to you in the future.
You are also responsible for paying your Council Tax Bill. If you are on a low income you may be entitled to Council Tax benefit.
