You can report emergency repairs on 0800 9151600 at any time during and outside normal office hours.
- Please do not report emergency repairs in writing, on-line or by email as this will cause delays and could put you or your home at risk.
What if I smell gas or fumes?
- Contact Northern Gas Networks (formerly Transco) on 0800 11 19 99 immediately and turn off your supply at the meter. You will be given a reference number by the call centre that you need to keep for future reference.
- Put out all cigarettes and do not use any naked flames;
- Open all windows and doors;
Do not use any electrical appliances including phones. Do not operate any lights!!
- Report the emergency to our Contact Centre on 0800 9151600 and wait for help, they may ask you for your reference number from Northern Gas Networks.
When you report an emergency to us we will ask you questions to determine whether or not the repair that you are reporting is a genuine emergency repair. It is important that only genuine emergencies are raised because this service is costly and misuse of it could mean that other genuine emergencies are not attended to promptly.
If we discover that you have misused the emergency repairs service to get your repairs done quicker, we may ask you to pay for the repair.
An example of misuse of the service would be if you had a dripping sink waste or tap connector that you could easily control by placing a container underneath it but instead you reported it to us as a bad leak.
We will attend to all genuine emergencies that threaten health, safety & security as soon as possible within 3 hours of you reporting them to us as long as it is safe to do so. If it is not safe to carry out emergency work straight away, for example if there is lose debris on a roof but we could not remove it due to high winds. We would carry out temporary measures to ensure the area below was safe and then complete the work as we could do so safely.
